Artist story
Founder of Student Art Society, a non-profit organization based on the idea that art is for everyone and should be accessible for all people with advocacy for disability rights and veterans' rights.
Louie first created this as an undergraduate student organization when she was attending college in 2007, where she revived an abandoned club called "Art Society" into "Student Art Society" (SAS) with the idea that each person has the opportunity to be an artist and that lifelong learning applies to art.
With a growing number of members, she and her team hosted weekly free art workshops for students, museum trips, campus art displays, art contests, and co-hosted popular events with other student clubs with its largest campus event attracting over 300 guests.
When she graduated in 2015, SAS club leadership was passed to a new group of undergrads who continued her mission on-campus.
Later on, even when she was busy with her professional career, Louie wanted to continue to build upon Student Art Society and her enthusiasm for sharing art with others as well as promoting ongoing visibility for disability rights and veteran's rights.
She decided to create Student Art Society as a registered non-profit 401c organization in Jersey, her home state, then eventually moved it to Florida when she relocated with her husband, SAS CIO, Rei Gunn.
She works full-time but that doesn't stop her from devoting free time to enjoying painting, drawing, photography, jewelry making, upcycling jewelry, and other crafts.
